Dave Matthews Band Biography and Information
In 1991, The Dave Matthews Band originated in Charlottesville, Virginia. When Dave Matthews decided to put some music he had written on tape. Instead of just recording himself with guitar, he brought instrumentals in to help give his music more depth. Dave found help in drummer Carter Beauford and sax player LeRoi Moore, and 16-year-old Stefan Lessard played bass. Finishing the band was keyboard player Peter Griesar, who departed from the band after a couple of years, as well as violinist, Boyd Tinsley. Their first gig was May 11, 1991, at a private rooftop party in Charlottesville. Their first public show was at the 1991 Earth Day Festival. Local weekly gigs soon came, and within a little time, word of the band's new sound spread like throughout the state. Clubs started to fill up, tours began to start, and the fans grew at an amazing rate. On November 9, 1993, the band released their first album, "Remember Two Things." The album was recorded at The Muse Music Club on Nantucket Island, in August 1993. The album debuted on College charts as the biggest independent entry, and went on to be certified gold by the RIAA. Meanwhile, the band kept touring and the fans kept growing. On January 19, 1999, Bama Rags/RCA released "Live at Luther College", an Acoustic Performance by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds.
Tim Reynolds was a special guest guitarist on all of the Dave Matthews Band albums, and toured with the band as a guest musician. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds toured as an acoustic twosome during the winters of 1996, 1997, and 1999. 'Live at Luther College" entered at number two on the Billboard 200 list and has since been certified platinum by the RIAA . The band spent much of 2000 on tour, ending up as the top-grossing touring band in the U.S. In the fall, Dave Matthews met with producer Glen Ballard in Los Angeles to arrange new songs. "Everyday" was released on February 27, 2001. Matthews played electric guitar for the first time, the success of "Everyday" has gone triple platinum. The band's 2003 summer tour ended with a performance in front of a crowd of 100,000 fans. The concert raised $2 Million for public education. In November 2003 "The Central Park" concert was released on DVD and CD. Captured by 30 cameras in H.D. wide screen video and recorded in stereo and 5.1 audio.
