Singer/songwriter Pancho Barraza (born Francisco Javier Barraza Rodríguez), became involved in Mexican traditional music after moving to Mazatlán and joining Banda San Sebastian and Banda Camino. He became los Recoditos' leading singer in 1991, playing along with brothers Miguel, Víctor, and Silvano Sarabia, Poncho Lizarraga, and Enrique Valdez. In 1995, Pancho Barraza began his solo career, making his debut with an album that was recorded along with Banda Santa María.

Traditional Mexican group Cuisillos was founded by composer/arranger Arturo Macias , who wanted to assemble a band to play during local commemorative events. In 1993, PolyGram signed them up. The group issued a self-titled album that featured their first hit, a song called "El Perro Aguayo." A year later, a second hit, titled "Las Mil y Una Noches," climbed regional Mexican charts. After leaving PolyGram, Cuisillos signed up to Discos Musart, releasing Dejate Llevar in 1995. Around the same time, the band adopted a new image based on the legendary Apache outfit.
