Taking opera into the mainstream on a global scale, Simon Cowell‘s Syco Music has launched a 4 man group called “IL Divo”, a new international operatic vocal group that has put a fresh face on popular songs, utilizing their good looks, exceptional voices & cultural diversity to bring their romantic blend of classical/pop music to audiences around the world. The band were formed after a worldwide search, rehearsals & recording sessions which took place during the 1rst half of 2004 in London, where all of the members of Il Divo currently live. Their eponymous debut album was released in April of 2005 & feat. a diverse play list that includes a cover of the Frank Sinatra’s standard "My Way", the Toni Braxton’s hit "Unbreak My Heart", as well as "Nella Fantasia," a newly arranged vocal version of "Gabriel's Oboe" from Ennio Morricone's score for The Mission, along with a number of original tracks by some of the most prolific songwriters & producers in the world.
The cast includes: Carlos Marin, baritone (Spain), Based in Madrid, he established a considerable reputation singing leading roles in the Spanish versions of Les Miserables, The Man from La Mancha & Beauty & The Beast, Urs Buhler, tenor (Switzerland), began singing publicly aged seventeen with Conspiracy, a hard rock band based in his home town of Luzern, where he attended the Academy for School & Church Music, David Miller, tenor (USA), is a graduate of Oberlin conservatory in Ohio where he took a BA in Vocal Performance & a Masters degree in Opera Theatre & Sebastien Izambard, vox populi (France) is the only self taught singer in the group. He is also an accomplished songwriter who plays guitar & piano.
