George Lopez Bio
George Lopez is one of the premier comedic talents in the entertainment industry today. His ABC & Warner Brothers Television produced sitcom "The George Lopez Show" features George as a writer/ producer as well as the star of his show, the show is also executive produced by Bruce Helford & movie-star Sandra Bullock. Lopez began his performing career as a standup comic in the Los Angeles, California, area in the 1980s. George also pursued a parallel career as an actor in film & television, &, in 2000, he became the 1rst Latino to host his own radio show on an English/language radio station. His show, on MEGA 92.3 F.M. in Los Angeles, was a morning drive to work show, & featured a radio-friendly version of some of his standup works. Lopez had his 1rst experience as a standup comic at an open mic night at a Los Angeles club in 1979 on the day he graduated from high school. George was inspired to take the plunge after watching the late Latino comedian Freddie Prinze in the TV show Chico & the Man, which had a popular run in the 1970s. Prinze remains a hero to Lopez to this day. George described the 1rst time he saw Prinze on television as a life changing experience.
After putting many years as a standup comic, George developed a loyal following of fans. One of these fans was Bullock, who approached Lopez after a show one night in 2000. Sandra thought his material would make a great television series, so she took a chance & decided to work with him. Going against the advice of her talent agents, Bullock helped George get his own show. Lopez later expressed his gratitude for Bullock's help saying, "I owe everything to her, because she didn't have to do this... She did this out of a love for the culture & because of a lack of visibility for Latinos on TV." Since, George has appeared on over 70 television's programs including: "The Tonight Show," "Politically Incorrect", Showtime's, "Latino Laugh Festival," & is a frequent host on Univision's "Que Locos." Lopez is featured in a recurring role on Showtime's "Resurrection Boulevard" & is a contributing writer for Nickelodeon's "The Brothers Garcia". George's new CD "Right Now Right Now" (Oglio Records/Warner Brothers) is currently enjoying great critical & public acceptance. Meanwhile, Lopez now performs standup to packed & very appreciative houses. Although he had been playing to sold-out audiences before his television show took off, his audiences were not quite as generous as they were after his show became popular. "At 41 years of age, George Lopez light has never shined brighter".
