Ratdog Wiltern Theater History, Facts and Information

Formed in 1995 by Grateful Dead guitarist/singer Bob Weir, RatDog became his primary gig upon the death of Jerry Garcia. The band has a distinctly dead like feel despite the presence of a saxophone player. RatDog also includes drummer Jay Lane of the Freaky Executives & the Up tones, blues/jazz/rock pianist Jeff Chimenti, guitarist Mark Karan & New England Conservatory of Music saxophonist Kenny Brooks. The band represents Weir's complete repertoire, from blues like "Good Morning Schoolgirl" & "Little Red Rooster" to the psychedelic styling of his Grateful Dead classics like "Playing In The Band," "The Other One" & "Throwing Stones" to his own Dead rockers like "Cassidy," "One More Saturday Night" & "Sugar Magnolia." The Dead spirit lives, & thrives, in this band - here's your opportunity to relive the magic.

Finally, early in 2003 Rob Wasserman decided to concentrate on his various personal projects, & RatDog went looking for a new bass player, finding veteran Robin Sylvester in Bay Area. The London native has lived in the a Bay Area for more than 20 years, is best known for his long time close association with the legendary Steve Douglas (saxophonist), which put Robin in recording & performing situations with Bob Dylan, Phil Spector, the Beach Boys, & Ry Cooder. Sylvester is a vital addition to a band that was ready to explode. To Weir, RatDog's music represents complete repertoire, from blues like "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" & "Little Red Rooster" to the psychedelic styling of his Grateful Dead classics tunes like "Playing in the Band," "The Other One," & "Throwing Stones". The 2000 release of RatDog’s 1rst studio album, "Evening Moods," added a few more hot tunes to the bands long song list.
