Keith Urban Arco Arena History, Facts and Information
Past and Present Shows at Arco Arena
Born in New Zealand, Keith Urban grew up in Australia where he loved everything about American culture, especially country music. The 1rst records Keith heard were songs by Dolly Parton, Don Williams, Charley Pride & Jim Reeves. Urban picked up the guitar at the age of 6 & knew by 7 that he would take a trip to Nashville to play country music. By age 8, Keith was winning country music talent shows & had steady work in bands as a teenager. After hearing the music of the band Dire Straits, Urban bought the group's albums & learned every song note by note. Keith began to add what he learned into his onstage solos. The resulting fusion of rock guitar mixed with country music has become Urban's signature style.
In 1988, Urban formed a 3/piece band whose distinctive style of country music led to solid success in his home of Australia. After charting 4 #1 country singles there, Keith made the move on to Nashville. Once in the Music City, Urban formed another 3/piece band called, The Ranch. The trio's live shows caused a huge buzz in town, eventually leading to a record deal with Capitol Nashville & a self titled album in 1997. Critics raved about the album's unique take on country music & Keith's virtuoso guitar playing style. Other recording artists also took notice, so they called on Urban to add some of his fingered magic to their records as well. The Dixie Chicks invited him to play on Fly, & Garth Brooks asked Keith to play on Double Live. Matt Rollings, 1 of Nashville's top musicians, hired Urban as a session player on an album he was producing & the 2 immediately clicked. Impressed by Rollings' knowledge of Nashville's session players, Urban asked him to produce his next record, another solo album.
The tour in support of that album included opening for such major acts as Tim McGraw, Faith Hill & Dwight Yoakam, as well as headlining his own shows. Urban released his debut self titled album in 2000 on Capitol Nashville. Keith was gradually accepted at radio with "It's a Love Thing," "Your Everything" & the # 1 "But for the Grace of God". Keith toured with Brooks & Dunn's Neon Circus in early 2001 & won the CMA Horizon award later on that year.
